Jack, why don't you go ahead and tell us in detail about the other big mistake they made in your portfolio this past week! Let's see if you have contributed to this one too.

Jack

You are almost coming around to the right statements.

New clients need to understand the caution needed when dealing with these discount brokers. They do not hold to the same standards as other brokers.

I can agree with that, but then when I shop at Wallmart and Cosctco I don't expect the personalized service that I get when I shop in a specialty shop. You are correct online brokers in general not just Datek in paticular tend to cut corners in handling responsibility, but when you call you local broker, he is responsible to understand your order and to make sure it goes through, for this service you pay a couple hundred dollars. Datek has no human in your trading chain, you place and confirm you order, you are responsible for your order and you are responsible for verifying your account information. Of course a local broker is going to take more responsibility for your trades he is responsible. Datek, Ameritrade, Etrade, etc. can not hold our hands while we trade. If that is the message you are trying to get across then yes I agree with you.

Does it detract from my reasons for shopping at Wallmart that they don't give personal service and have knowledgeble clerks with lots of advice on what I want, No it doesn't I pay less for the product and expect less. If any of us are children and need our hand held while we make our orders then we better hire a babysitter.
