We have learned something important since the days that I served in Vietnam."

Big difference between that and "served in the military during the Vietnam era." Just ask George W. Bush, who also "served in the military during the Vietnam era."

He made the latter comment first in that same speech before making the first comment later in the speech.......that "he served in Vietnam". Clearly he was wrong to say "he served in Vietnam" when he did not. He should have stuck with "I served in the military during Vietnam" throughout his entire speech. He definitely misspoke but was he intentionally lying.......that's not as clear now. When making a long speech, its possible to make that kind of gaffe without even realizing it.

Frankly, I think he's ruined his career but I don't think his 'lie' was as serious as the NY Times first reported.

"1. The AP now has the full video of the Norwalk speech. Elsewhere in that 2008 speech, writes Susan Haigh, Blumenthal describes his past accurately, saying he "served in the military during the Vietnam era." At minimum, New York Times reporter Raymond Hernandez should have included that detail in his story. This is, as I say, the big smoking gun in the story, and the Times failed to disclose that in that same speech, Blumenthal gave a more complete and accurate description of his service."

>>" Wrong again, Ted.

The NYTimes article includes a video clip, where you can clearly hear Blumenthal claim that he served in Vietnam:

And there are videos out there where he clearly says he did not serve in Vietnam...saw one last night from a speech of his in 2008.

But he does have a problem but based on what this guy has done time after time for the military in his state and overall ...he has been to "every?" military funeral in his state...even if only 75% that is "actions speak louder than words" type of stuff. Did you read the article from today's Times re Shays comments and the stories of his friend's personal efforts for the military?

My guess...this one is filled with too much "gray" and he has many, many friends in the military. The article also mentions that his son is a marine but nothing else about his service.

RE Bush...the guy was a draft dodger who went AWOL and probably flunked a drug test for pilots and he got relected after he had sent many, many Americans off to Iraq to die and/or get maimed and caused the unnecessary destruction of a country and death and maimings of countless Iraqis to get his family revenge. We and the world would have been so much better if all he had done was lie about his service in Vietnam and show some interest in his August 2001 briefings.
