Re: "restore our military to a decent shape. Doing so not only helped end the cold war, but also gave us enough modern weapons that later presidents could have better budget results without crippling our military. Many of those weapons systems are still in use today....."

Except for the re-tooled antiquated battlewaggons (retired from service now) and the never-built 'Star Wars' concepts on the 'high frontier'....

Yeah, our military was SUCH a disaster at that time...LOL

Our military was at LEAST 10x BETTER than anyone else's when Reagan got elected.

Reagan didn't "improve" our military he just THREW money at it.

That's why the military contractors at that time were able to say, "Yeah, just charge a $1000 for the hammer and a $1000 for the toilet seat and charge a $100 a piece for those two screws."

Under Reagan the military became a BLACKHOLE for taxpayer money and it has persisted ever since.

Jimmy Carter actually wanted to make the military MORE efficient. He wanted ONE fighter jet for all three services so they could exchange parts and mechanics and make the contractors have to COMPETE to come up with the best plane. That was brilliant and smart and GOOD for the taxpayers.
