CAMPBELL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 6, 1997--Videonics Inc. (NASDAQ:VDNX) today announced it has begun shipping Python, a video capture device which makes it easy for PC and laptop users to send video e-mails, create video Web pages, and add video to multimedia presentations.
Python creates highly compressed video in real time, using the industry-standard MPEG -1 format. It has a U.S. suggested retail price of $349.
"Python is the second in a series of new products shipping this quarter," commented Michael D'Addio, Videonics' President and CEO. "This exciting new product expands our product line to the PC and Internet market and brings affordable digital video to millions of Web users."
"Videonics has been a pioneer in digital video technology since 1989," Mr. D'Addio continued. "Our video expertise gives us the ability to present a much better picture than people have seen before on computer screens. Python's mail capability is easy to use, fun, and very fast. We are providing advanced compression and transmission technologies that make Python one of the fastest and most efficient way to send videos."
Python captures, digitally compresses, and plays back video from any video source including camcorders, VCRs, and cameras. It delivers high-quality MPEG -1 video in real-time without the complexity and expense of internal video capture boards. Python also captures high-resolution JPEG still pictures. Software for viewing MPEG video and JPEG still pictures is widely available on most PCs.
Python is extremely straightforward, even for novice users. It connects in seconds, directly to the computer's parallel port. A simple on-screen graphic interface offers color, sound and video "transport" controls, giving users easy access to the Python's full range of features. The user captures videos with a click of the mouse. Another click automatically sends the clip via e-mail, re-compressing it to optimize transmission, even by modem connection. Python is one of the most efficient ways to transmit videos anywhere in the world.
Web publishers will find Python the perfect tool for Web video. One click saves the video in Web-ready form and creates a ready-to-go Web page that links to the video. Python also captures audio, using the computer's existing sound card, and synchronizes it with the video into a single MPEG -1 file.
Included with Python is more than $1,000 dollars of free bundled software, most of which is integrated into Python's already easy to use application. Videonics bundling partners include:
Xing StreamWorks Server and Player: The StreamWorks Server enables the real time streaming transmission of MPEG audio and video. Kai's Photo Soap SE: This revolutionary program gives users all the power of professional retouching. Whether you have an old photograph cracked from age, or an indoor shot turned yellow by poor lighting, Kai's Photo Soap SE software allows users to quickly and easily touch-up and enhance video snap shots. Astound: With Astound, users have everything they need to quickly and easily create presentations, slide shows, kiosks, computer-based training, animated demonstrations and hot Web pages. "We're very excited about bringing Videonics' video expertise to this important market. With its affordability, unique features and overall user-friendliness, Python is pioneering a new product category that will bring video e-mail and video on the Web within the reach of mainstream computer users," noted Heather Petersen, Product Marketing Manager for Python.
