In the 5-7 year old set, Mohammad was considered a big player. He wasn't a pedophile at that time and place. I don't know how common it was, but considering that marriages at around that age still occur in the area, I'd guess it wasn't unheard of. In Mohammad's time, people died when they were in their 30s. It was not uncommon for girls to marry at 12.
