David and all, 1. re: price dip on low volume,yahoo.com Wall Street Sinks Today on Profit-Taking 2. re: apple's CEO,yahoo.com Apple Board Meets As CEO Search a Priority By Samuel Perry CUPERTINO, Calif. (Reuters) - Apple Computer's board of directors met Wednesday with the choice of a new chief executive officer by the end of 1997 still high on its list of priorities, industry sources said. An Apple Computer spokeswoman confirmed the board was holding a regularly scheduled meeting, but declined to discuss any details of the board's agenda except to say the board expects to name a CEO by the end of the year." Apple co-founder Steve Jobs returned to Apple as interim CEO after the ouster of Gil Amelio four months ago. He publicly mused last month about using a planned Hawaii vacation to think over whether he would stay on as CEO of Apple. In a separate announcement, Apple said Jobs would meet with reporters Monday, Nov. 10, to unveil important changes in the company's product line and in the way it does business. An Apple spokeswoman said Jobs would deliver some milestone news" but declined to comment further. Last week, Jobs told an analyst conference call for Pixar Animation Studios Inc., where he is also CEO and chairman, that he had no interest in remaining CEO of Apple permanently, according to a Pixar executive. Jobs has strong support on the Apple board, and industry sources have said his forceful character and founding role at the struggling computer maker could make it difficult to attract a top-level candidate to the post. Some analysts had been expecting Jobs would decide to stay on as CEO, especially after two of the rumored candidates for the post took other jobs. Two weeks ago, David Dorman, of SBC Communications Inc., was named CEO of PointCast Inc. Earlier in October, Joe Costello, the CEO of Cadence Design Systems, said he was leaving to head Michael Milken's educational services firm, Knowledge Universe. But at least one industry expert who watches Apple closely said he believes Jobs has a favored candidate already and that he expects Jobs and the CEO search team to stage a dramatic unveiling once someone is selected. The word is that Steve's got apparently somebody he's real hot on," said Timothy Bajarin, president of Creative Strategies, a consulting firm based in San Jose, Calif. Given Jobs' flair for drama," he said, the board may build suspense for the new chief executive by crowning the new executive around the time of its MacWorld trade show in San Francisco in January. Apple has declined to comment on details of the search or about Jobs' decision regarding the chief executive position. Steve has not made any announcement as to what his plans are for the future as far as the CEO of Apple. He remains interim CEO," said Apple spokeswoman Katie Cotton. We're not disclosing what the agenda items are and we haven't made any announcements," Cotton said of Wednesday's board meeting. I'm not going to speculate." A new chief executive will need to move quickly to get a management team in place and, with Jobs, develop a plan for bringing the company back to health after a series of financial losses and continued loss of market share. regards, BPP(Bipin's partner)
