My ROTC experience was not quite as instructive. We learned to march in formation, poorly, and listen to lectures. I did learn one thing, which was the real reason we were in Vietnam and actually makes sense: "Vietnam is a strategic location between the Pacific and Indian Oceans." The reason they put in the press made no sense. I took one quarter of advanced ROTC before being washed out by hearing and color vision deficiency. The first thing we did was plan a tea for a visiting colonel. I wrote a paper on how many lives we saved by bombing Hiroshima and got an A.
