Then that isn't the case. It it were so, we wouldn't have been in any conflict since WWII. None of our opponents had nuclear weapons, and they were not particularly inclined to give up once we engaged in conflict.

Again, the problem with nuclear weapons is they have limited uses. And those uses decline every day. Now, granted, they do have uses. Which is why only a few advocate completely getting rid of them. But, do we really need 5k?

The answer is, no. Now that may change in the future. But it isn't like we would lose the technology if we reduced our stockpile. So we could build more if the situation warrants it.
