SunEdison and Staples Reach 15 Million Kilowatt Hours Energy Production Milestone Milestone reached through a solar hosting program that includes 32 solar installations located at Staples facilities throughout North America BELTSVILLE, Md., May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Staples, Inc. (Nasdaq: SPLS), the world's largest office products company, and SunEdison, North America's largest solar energy services provider and a subsidiary of MEMC Electronic Materials (NYSE: WFR), today announced the 15 million kilowatt hour production milestone from 32 solar installations hosted by Staples stores and fulfillment centers across North America. The SunEdison/Staples solar hosting program started in 2005 with solar deployments at Staples facilities in Rialto, Calif., Ontario, Calif., and Englewood, NJ. Since that time, SunEdison has deployed 32 sites for Staples in New Jersey, California, Maryland and Connecticut. The environmental attributes associated with the solar deployments and the 15 million kilowatt hours of energy produced has avoided an estimated 17.7 million lbs. of CO2 to date. The 15 Million kilowatt hours of energy produced is enough energy to power over 700 average US homes for one year. The solar hosting program is made possible through power purchase agreements (PPA) between SunEdison and Staples. Through the agreements, SunEdison finances, installs, owns, operates and maintains the solar power systems deployed at Staples facilities with no upfront costs to Staples. In return, Staples will purchase the energy produced to offset their grid demand—typically at or below retail rates for 20 years.
