Re: " Let's say you run a truck manufacturing company and your engineers discover that they can design a reliable powerful truck engine that will reduce the fuel costs of all trucking companies by half and you decide, no way, it would be stupid to sell that technolgy and tell your engineeers to just shut up about it. Is this scenario realistic? That is what you are saying."

No... that is not 'what I am saying'.

And, just FYI... I had several long conversations with an executive of one of the biggest commercial truck manufacturers in the country recently --- we were at the same location for a couple of days --- and had some very interesting discussions with him about what his company's R&D folks were up to in this area and what his new models would be capable of... and what he thought his competition was up to.

So I am well aware that 'Macy's doesn't tell Gimbles', but I am ALSO AWARE that the entire industry is well on it's way to some really big improvements in the fuel efficiency that it's fleets are capable of, as well as really big reductions in pollution.

Very little of what has been talked about in public is 'pie-in-the-sky'... (and that helps to explain why, in the previous article I posted that you took exception to, it pointed out that the industry was announcing it's SUPPORT for these efficiency improvements).

Walmart is on the leading edge regarding trucking efficiencies and has set the bar very high on mpg. Many doubt that their goal can be met, but trucking companies are working with them to achieve it.
