Crude oil is a bit too disruptive to digestion for my liking. Some species like it though. <What type of crude oil do you eat? > Some good paraffin types, with a bit of refining, are commonly used for human ingestion.

For example, paraffins are used in dough containers at bakeries and many things contain pharmaceutical grade mineral oil from crude oil.

Personally, having learned a bit about carcinogens, I cut the crusts off bread - I prefer not to ingest mineral oils or burned, oxidized, cracked or polymerized hydrocarbons. Mineral oils are badly metabolized in people.

Also, I distrust quality control processes - maybe somebody will use the wrong oil in the pans for cooking bread.

As we have seen with the drilling rig explosion, people get things badly wrong.
