S&P MAINTAINS STRONG BUY RECOMMENDATION ON SHARES OF MEMC ELECTRONIC MATERIALS
9:57 AM ET 5/24/10 | S&P Marketscope

WFR announces its intent to acquire privately held Solaicx, a developer of crystal growth manufacturing technology, for $66M. An additional $10M in costs is also estimated to account for recent investments made by existing securityholders.

We believe that the greater electrical performance of Solaicx's wafers will allow WFR's customers to create higher efficiency cells. We think the acquisition expands WFR's addressable market in the solar industry and expect the deal to be accretive to '11 earnings.

We see the proposed deal closing by the end of Q2, subject to approvals.
