The question was, if I recall correctly, why China can make such rapid progress in their energy program while the US seems to remain bogged down in its own inertia.

The answer it seems, is fairly obvious. They don't have all the gnats and mosquitoes buzzing in their ears.

We can agree to disagree on the value of the environmental lobby and their lawsuits, but let's not confuse the Chinese ability to get things done with America's lack of ability or motivation.

Ken Burn's National Parks show on PBS did a good job on Hetch Hetchy. A lot of folks (the rich) in San Fransisco wanted it and finally got it.

But we learned a good lesson that actually helped the National Park system in the long run.
