Bullish revenue growth "intelligence" from Akins at the last conference call:

"On a sequential basis, third quarter revenue increased 15 percent.....

we feel comfortable with revenue growth increasing for at least the next two quarters.......(edit note: he said revenue GROWTH increasing - not just revenue increasing...important point, considering last qtrs GROWTH was 15% sequential)........

customers recently told us that, in their opinion, the demand by chipmakers for Deep-UV tools in 1998 would be approximately 700 systems..........

the demand for Cymer's laser remains strong. The order rates from our customers remains strong. The urgency of delivery of lasers to customers remains urgent and unchanged. Forecasts from our customers for the foreseeable future remain strong..........

based on significant orders received since the close of the third quarter, and on customer forecasts, we expect continued sequential growth for at least the next two quarters.........

Given the above statements and given managements track record of significantly beating all estimates, I don't think it will be any trick at all to do 700-800 units in 1998.

Justa W. you seem to have some other opinions and maybe you can tell how many units you perceive shipping given the above facts.

P.S.: The quickest way for a man to get a haircut is to ask his barber if he needs a haircut.

Good Luck To Each And All

Curly, your estimate of 700 units for next FY is reasonable, but your calculations may be flawed : 40% growth was used in year to year context, and your base for the current year (126x4) may be somewhat high (the last 126 lasers quarter was their largest in terms of production).

Your basic premise holds, however, - transition to .25mu is going forward, and there are no immediate signs of laser inventory build up at CYMER's customers - considering that book-to-bill ratio did not change much. Unless we see some signs of material changes, the future for the company remains bright (stock price notwithstanding)

Regards,

Y.

Curly,

I have them selling 600 units in '98 to almost meet the 40% revenue growth target. At this 600 units sales level, I have them making $1.30 for 53% earnings growth over '97's $0.85/share. If you or anyone else would like a copy of my spreadsheet, please email me and I'll be happy to give you a copy.
