The federal agency responsible for regulating offshore oil drilling repeatedly ignored warnings from government scientists about environmental risks in its push to approve energy exploration activities quickly, according to numerous documents and interviews.

Didn't complete my quotes correctly. Sorry.

tejek: "This is a ridiculous statement. Of course there is risk......there is risk crossing the street. Tell us something we didn't know.<<

koan: "Using logic, there is acceptable risk and unacceptable risk. If one crosses the street on a red light that is different from crossing the street on a green light."

tejek: "There is risk just crossing a street whether there is a red or green light. There is risk every time we board a plane. Just living is a risk. This is not news."

koan: "Simple logic, it seems to me, says that we should never do anything that can cause this much damage, if we cannot acceptably mitigate the damage we know sooner or later will happen.

tejek:"We do this all the time. We drive cars that spew crap into the atmosphere which may be causing global warming and may not be reversible.

koan: "One of these days we are going to have a nuclear war or a nuclear power plant is going to blow up. In both cases that is unacceptable risk as the damage will be catastrophic beyond what most people can comprehend.

tejek: "Or we may not......humanity has an extraordinary penchant for surviving and living on.

koan: "And make no mistake, statisticians say both nuclear war and a nuclear power plant blow up are foregone conclusions eventually.

tejek: "Forgone? Who says that?

STATISTICIAN'S say. I have read some of the equations.

A deep water oil well was bound to blow up one day and here we are with a totally unacceptable response.

Now watch how much damage is eventually manifested by this oil spill blow up and tell me if drilling in deep water is an acceptable risk?

So long as we are addicted to oil its a risk we have to take until we can develop alternatives.

Are you prepared to stop using all fossil fuels...stop visiting your family in OR, never use any vehicle, only heat your house with solar, etc? Are you ready to do that?

Because I've got news for you....the rest of the country ain't ready to do it and we can't afford it financially to import all our oil. The amount we are importing now is killing our balance of trade deficit.

The Obama administration is actively developing alternative energy sources. They hope to double the amount energy we get from these renewable sources by the end of his first term. Do you know how much that will be? Their portion of the total will go from 3-6%.

Carter established the energy dept in the 1970s. We haven't done squat since them. Bush's head of the energy dept wanted to abolish the agency. So then who do you want to blame?
