®Did the Lord commend the unjust steward?¯

Gregor,

I interpert the "master (lord)" in verse 8 to be the rich man of verse 1. (Note that versions which use "lord" use a small case l.) I believe this interpertation is strengthen by the fact that Jesus switches to the first person in verse 9 and lays the ground work for verse 13 where Jesus states that a servant cannot serve two masters. He must choose his earthly master who commends the wicked or choose his heavenly master who rewards the honest.

The lesson remains the same: "if only the Christian was as eager and ingenious in his attempt to attain goodness as the man of the world is in his attempt to attain money and comfort, he would be a much better man." (Barclay)
