Good point on outsourcing (borrowing).

Interesting that the crash of 2000 and 2008 were both preceded by consumption peaks.

During Clinton's admin I could see our conservation efforts slipping away (SUVs) and was warning that that was going to end badly. I lived near downtown LA and every light in every skyscraper was on all night every night.

I could not believe there was no US energy conservation policy, and when oil doubled in price almost over night it seemed everyone ignored it. The dot com crash started about one month after the oil price doubling.

Seemed like a no brainer train coming at us. We were frozen in out tracks like a deer in a headlight.

Still are.
