"Java is a fraud!!!" Hahaha, just had to say that to peak Dan's interest :)

Seriously, I think Sun could have definitely come up with better spin. "The idea is that you want people to optimize for the benchmark." No comment.

McNealy is such an insecure loser. I hope he gets email-bombed. I'm glad that Microsoft (and Netscape) execs show a lot more class.

>>>Given that you were complaining about Java performance in both Netscape and IE in another message,<<<

That I was.

That doesn't make your source any more credible. Neither does a PR shot of this type being picked up by some online magazines. Having worked on a weekly rag myself, I know the meaning of being so hungry for cheap copy that you'll print any well-written PR garbage as though it was an article. This is something industry spin doctors do all the time. And using some obscure outfit as the source to mask the big company behind it is not unknown at all.

>>>doesn't it bother you just a bit that Sun is apparently trying to cover up the problems rather then fixing them? <<<

This assumes facts not in evidence, as they say on the lawyer shows. I believe Sun is working hard on performance, as is Netscape, and I have very excellent reasons to think so, which unfortunately I cannot go into.

I'd say it's faster relative to the need than this all-Microsoft software suite I'm using on this box today is. Right now it takes the NT print server up to 45 seconds to service my Win95/Excel 97 spreadsheet print request by putting up the printer dialog box, and another 45 to print it. This on a 200 mhz pentium with 64 megs of memory. Yes, I want Java to be faster because it's a language, and so can slow everything else down.

The Microphiles live in a glass house with respect to performance and bloat, and should not go throwing loose accusations around.

And I will wait until a less dramatically phrased 'study' (hit piece) is devised before I believe it.
