When everything is make-believe I guess one imaginary god is as good as a plethora of imaginary gods. At the end of the day they're all false gods. Enthralled by the platitudes some hallucinating savage spouted in the desert who was crawling with lice thousands of years ago begins to make good sense.

The important thing for chimps is to boss other people, and in this case biblical judgements justify life affirming actions. The farther civilization gets from the tree the more they hoot and holler against science and evolution exposing their false god(s).

"Observe these young people's dread of independence and their frantic desire to "belong," to attach themselves to some group, clique or gang. Most of them have never heard of philosophy, but they sense that they need some fundamental answers to questions they dare not ask--and they hope that the tribe will tell them how to live. They are ready to be taken over by any witch doctor, guru, or dictator. One of the most dangerous things a man can do is to surrender his moral autonomy to others" Ayn Rand
