He set himself up for a backlash on that promise, but it sure had vote value at the time. I think he is prepared for the fickle voting sentiments and short memories of the anti war populous.

Remember Bush 1 saying "Read my lips." Everybody remembers it but no body really cared after he was in office.

A good leader should be sensitive and responsive to changes in circumstance. I'm not saying that excuses disingenuous promises from the campaign platform but I think Obama was more naive than disengenuous when he made that promise, same with Bush1 who was more seasoned.
