Re: "Rescission is No Substitute for Real Entitlement Reform /
Today President Obama’s deficit commission met for the second time and the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing on the Congressional Accountability and Line-Item Veto Act of 2009"

This current push for 'line-item veto' powers for the President is a fine idea (same as it always has been!), but:

1) It won't pass Congress now. (Same as it never has been able to the many other Presidents who asked for the authority) and,

2) Even if passed, it's fairly small potatoes anyway. (Compared to the really big changes in spending that need to be made.)

As for 'entitlement reform' I expect that 2011 - 2013 will be the season for that (as well as tax reform).

Oh but if we could push a Balanced Budget amendment through in the next year or so!

Even if not taking effect for some years (to give time to phase in to the big changes that will be required), it would STILL provide an IMMEDIATE DOSE of SOBRIETY to Washington and to our nation.

(Note: Germany's balanced budget amendment to their constitution --- passed about a year back now --- is scheduled to take effect in FY 2013 for them. At which point German federal budget deficits will not be allowed to exceed 0.35%.)

The world will not be able to ignore that, I think!
