I have to agree here. We can't hold Sun and Microsoft to differing standards of ethical behavior. If this information had been reported against the Microsoft Java VM, the outcry here and elsewhere would have been immense. We'd all be patting ourselves on the back saying yes, we always knew they were devious, but not that devious...

I can only hope that claims of VM superiority based on this benchmark were a serious misunderstanding between Sun's Marketing and Engineering departments (such things do happen in my experience).

Regardless, SUNW would be well advised to own up and apologize for this blunder.

P.S. I wonder if Pendragon thought to scan the Microsoft Java VM for matches against its Caffeine benchmarks.
