Form a government/private sector task force

Another committee. Wheee!

Put the BP corporate operations under this leader.

Plugging the leak is one thing. Cleaning up the mess is another thing, a whole new ballgame. The skill sets required are far different.

Establish an open budget for the project.

Why budget? Spend whatever it takes, but have safeguards against fraud.

Freeze BP's assets in the US until the leak is fixed and the cleanup is complete

Probably illegal.

Assign every scientist in government and private sector who knows anything about this type of spill to the job of stopping the leak and then cleaning up the mess.

You mean BP is lollygagging around and not using the best talent available?

Keep trying to stop the leak until something works.

Isn't that what BP has been doing?

Hold daily press conferences

BP execs have been all over the news.

There is no other priority in government until the leak is stopped and the clean-up has begun.

Uh... we're involved in two wars, remember?

Remember the 2008 banking crisis? McCain ran back to Washington in a show of force to "fix it". Obama stayed cool. What McCain did was pure political theater, everyone knew it and McCain looked like an ass.

Right now everyone is rightfully angry and pissed off, but everyone knows there isn't much sense in the President showing up in a Tyvek suit with shovel - political grandstanding is what everyone wants but that crap will come back to bite later on. Let Obama be Obama. What happens now is not relevant. The damage is done. What happens in three months, six months and a year down the road is what's important. Obama needs to focus on that.
