Whether or not the news presented any argument for it, you did not do so here.

The news contains all sorts of different stories, tons of fact, and opinion, and sometimes argument, but the fact that someone may have made a good argument for your case, doesn't mean you have done so, or doesn't mean people are going to take your points as correct absent showing some real argument.
