>They resumed the procedure at about 3:45 local time, after the nearly 12-hour interruption.

What I don't understand, is what is going on during the 12 hours they stop??

Inspite of all the negative press, BP has been busting their humps. This operation is far more delicate that it would seem at first blush. If they put too much pressure on the BOP, it could blow up and then the hole and leak would become larger. So every few hours they stop and see what the flow rate and the pressure are at the wellhead. The more I read about the top kill the more worried I become. At one site, I read that the top kill has never been done underwater period. Don't know if that's true or not but its not very reassuring. Part of the problem is that there have not been a lot of underwater disasters so no one has a great deal of experience.

And when you talk about the best minds.......the best minds in the oil industry are congregated in Houston right now trying to solve this problem. No one is playing....they know their whole industry is on the line.
