I subscribe to Newsweek, Time, and the Nation, Scientific American and Science News and Discover. I also got subscriptions to Scientific Amercan, Discover and Newsweek to both my kids for Christmas. I have learned if the books and magazines are in the house the kids will get used to reading them. And I have been reading magazines like Time and Newsweek for 50 years, every week. Every week. I take them with me whereever I go and I never sit anywhere without reading. Even at the restaurant. I always read while I am eating. I never watch TV without also reading. The table next to my chair is filled with these differnt magazines. I also watch lots of the PBS programs like Frontline. Then I coordinate everything I read and watch, with all the other information and pull my ideas from the composit of information. I am very eclectic in my thinking. Between 24 and 26 I did almost nothing but read for two years all the great thinkers that ever lived that I could think of. And I am going down today to pick up two books I just ordered: The Quantum Zoo and The Big short (I was half way through both, but gave them away for presents to clients and reordered them to finish them. I also use google constantly. Last two days I have been reading about the Patagonian Toothfish, California Black Sea Bass, California and Alaskan Halibut ranges and California White Sea bass and the newly discovered colloses squid in the antarctic. I have spent 50 years accumulating information with the same ferver I do today. I have never quit reading compulsively and am sort of obsessive about learning and use all sources available to me. I seldom ever watch anything but politics and science. Seldom watch any sports and no sit coms or reality shows. Ever. Never did. Bore me. I like science and reality. That is why I am so sure human beings only get so smart and that is not as smart as we think. And we will need clear knowledge and thinking if our species and planet is to survive going forward as the world has gotten so complex. PS and I have believe MSNBC to be about as good as daily news gets. IMO.
