Now, I'm afraid, if we put a buck on $3.00 gas, we'll be paying 6 bucks in 18 months, driven by market forces alone, and the tax will be a real killer.

I think we should increase the gas tax in say increments of 20 cents per year for the next five years........and dividing the proceeds exclusively between mass transit and renewable/alternative energy research. Do you know how much money would be raised with just an extra dollar of tax? The annual sums would be significant.....and implementing it over a five year period would give people time to adjust.

I agree. We were very stupid about wasting oil like we did with cheap oil.

And I remember when Ari Flieshier was asked about the large SUV's and he said Bush felt it was part of the American way of life.
