France is up there with Portugal, Hungary and Belgium but better than Italy and Greece. Its debt is 77% of GDP:

{Click on 2 in the upper left hand corner and then put your cursor over the country......it will show the debt as a percentage of GDP for 2009.}

If you put your cursor over Spain, you will see that their debt is acceptable by EU standards........53% of GDP.
