I remember reading somewhere that The Vast Mexican Cantrel(s?) Field was discovered by a fisherman from an oil slick
rising from the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico..perhaps its leaking up all over the place and being in cold water at deep depths it takes longer / forever to break up and rise and floats around in blobs?
