when every hotel in the city refused to house Frederick Douglass, he welcomed him into his home.

Oh, oh! Brumley is going to fake another panic attack!!! :-)

(takes men into his home!!) Poor Brumster!

What a great and good man. If he had been a Christian every Christian in the world would have rejoiced in him as their guiding star. But because he was an honest man who loved humanity and hated superstition he was reviled by the small and the ignorant. That is proof that he was one of the most important people who ever lived. To have the hate of ignorant men...and the unqualified love and respect of the great and wise--what an accomplishment!

he was lauded by such literary giants as Mark Twain and Walt Whitman who hailed his fresh attitude toward humanity. The cornerstone of his beliefs was the family; he revered his own wife and daughters. He strongly advocated equal rights for blacks and women. He defended Susan B. Anthony from hecklers when she spoke in Peoria; when every hotel in the city refused to house Frederick Douglass, he welcomed him into his home. Despite his highly unorthodox views on religion and social order, he enjoyed great popularity as a public speaker. After his death in Dobbs Ferry, New York, his writings, published posthumously, filled 12 volumes."
