Hamas is the duly elected government of Gaza.

Lots of abusive governments have been elected.

That's not the issue. The issue is the Gazans elected a gov't the Israelis do not want. Its the equivalent of the US putting a blockade around Canada because we didn't like the gov't Canadians put into power.

The truth is Israel wants complete control over the territories so it can do what its wants with them

If it ever did, it doesn't want control of Gaza anymore, it just wants to be sure that no attacks come from Gaza. To the extent they want control its for that purpose.

Of course it wants control. It blockades the Gazan port, it make Egypt control the tunnels and Israels controls land access from the West Bank. Israel is in total control.......much like the USSR controlled the Eastern Bloc.

If Hamas, and its supporters in Gaza, had concentrated on building a future for the people of Gaza once Israel pulled out, than things in Gaza would be better now (which doesn't mean good, esp. by American standards, but much better than they are now), instead they concentrated on eliminating the opposition, and attacking Israel.

Hamas actually does improve life in Gaza...that's why they were elected. They also want there to be a Palestinian state free from Israel's interference and control. Normally, that would be considered a noble goal in the US, but for some reason, conservatives in this country aren't buying it. I wonder why.
