I hear you, and I believe BP will represent deep value. But the justice system in this country can be mercilessly punitive, especially when dealing with a stricken victim. According to Yahoo, BP's cash flow (after the 10bn dividend) in '08 was 4.6bn. They don't have the '09 numbers yet. Frankly, I haven't seen a truly analytical estimate of what this may all cost. Most of the estimates seem to be plucked out of the reporter's ass - which is inevitable in a situation where the well is still spewing and the tort vultures haven't come out of the woodwork yet.
