I encourage you to take a long, hard look at the action following the April 2000 top:



The parallels are uncanny. The action of May-August of 2000 is what I would expect to see now; rangebound chop, going nowhere. It would actually be perfect, since it would give many opportunities to sell. If at any time it manages to power out of the range, then something else is afoot and it's time to step aside. My fear is a more rapid decline that shortens the window for selling, but if I don't sell all that I want, I'll just have to be content to wait for the next opportunity. Sooner or later, there will be another trend I believe I can trust.

Right now, if a downtrend develops, I would believe in it. Fundamentals, sentiment, and secular trends all support market weakness going forward. Now we just need the technicals.
