Thank you for your effort David. I don't know how reliable or thorough Coretest is, but until a major magazine runs some JTS benchmarks in a review of hard drives, it is much better than nothing.
Are you sure the track-track seek # is right for the JTS?? Seems too low. (results for my quantum bigfot are below)

But as far as that German magazine goes, while it might be true that the JTS drives have never had the best seek times compared to other IDE drives manufactured at the same time, their latest drives are only 11 ms (as opposed to <10 for other drives). They spin as fast or faster than other IDE drives, and the cache is larger as well.
My guess, from what I know about these computer magazine reviewer types, is that the reviewer was splitting hairs because if he/she didn't there would be little to write about. The tirade about the JTS being like some prehistoric animal probably translates into less than a 10% difference. It is a non issue for most non premium system builders

Here are results for my quantum Bigfoot 4.3G on Pent 133 512K cache TX chipset. I also tested at 150Mhz (75*2) to show the influence of computer speed on the benchmarks

.............. 133Mhz ..... 150 Mhz (75*2)

Buffered...... 12720 ..... 13904
Sequential.... 7168 ...... 7120
Random........ 2800 ..... 2800
Avg Seek...... 12.4 ..... 12.5
Track-Track... 3.6 ...... 3.6
Overall Score. 80 ........ 87

I have no idea why the random read result should be so high here. It should be a big weakness for this 3600RPM drive.
