yet people show pictures of birds in oil, not of the dead 11. I don't think the 'liberals' care much about the dead men. they were rude nasty men, ya? so who cares. do you? I'm asking.

Why would you say something like that? Its not possible to care about both? That's just cold. And what do you have against liberals? You owe those of us who are liberals an apology.

Guys knew they were doing dangerous work. Birds did not get to choose.

It does not matter the political leaning, every one should have compassion towards people who lost their lives doing their jobs, and that include those coal miners, and those fallen heroes doing what the government asked them to do - albeit for the illegal wars (vietnam, Iraq).

When ever the number of dead people is raised, I picture my self like the insensitive Seinfeld comedy group disingenuously saying, "ehhh, that's too bad."

When there is no bonding between us and far away people, or people not within our cultural makeup, a tongue click is the best we can muster when we learn of their suffering. Further we make a conscious effort to objectify them by differences in race, custom, dress, creed, etc to justify our indifference. We can wrap a whole alien characterization around some other type of person if we want to. Then we can put a what on the entity we are shooting at, which is no longer a who; a Nip, a Gook, Gerry, Cong, rag head, etc... may as well be shooting ducks off a fence post.

If you want us to care more, you have to cause us to identify with one another more. An author or director gets me to cry in a movie when they get me to identify with a tragic figure, even a fictitious character. I've cried more in fiction movies than I have learning about millions being raped and slaughtered in Africa from the 70's until now. Not proud of that, just being honest.
