I think your comment about analysts being right about the downgrade has merit. Like us individual investors, who can't and don't count on catching tops and bottoms (yet we invest and make money), we should realize that analysts are humans as well so citing how far off their up/down grade is from the extreme postion does not serve any purpose. I doubt that they promise their clients that they will get them in and out at the extreme points in the stock price so even if they get the direction right and their clients make money it is usually good enough to keep them in business.
