Time to review Krauthammer's Narcissist Obama comments: The Narcissist in Chief By Bob Ellis on April 21st, 2009 Charles Krauthammer may really be onto something here in understanding the un-American behavior of our own American president Barack Obama. (see video below) Krauthammer points out the fact that, unlike most presidents, Barack Obama refuses to defend his own country against any attacks made on it by some of the most notorious thugs in the world. Who could imagine President Reagan or either of the President Bushes not defending their country against the anti-American rantings of people like Hugo Chavez and Daniel Ortega? Obama responded to Ortega’s recent anti-American diatribe with “I’m grateful that President Ortega did not blame me for the things that occurred when I was three months old.” Krauthammer really nailed it when he asked, “Does the narcissism of this man know no bounds?” It became apparent during Bill Clinton’s presidency that he was a narcissist. In many ways, it made him less dangerous to America’s well being than a dedicated ideologue like his wife Hillary. Nevertheless, it was pretty pathetic to watch an American president day in and day out who was so full of himself, someone in the White House for whom it was “all about him.” I had assumed Obama was more of the ideologue, and perhaps he is more of a true ideologue than Bill Clinton was. But it appears Krauthammer is right, and that for President Obama, being loved and not being blamed for anything is more important than anything–including the honor and credibility of his own nation. Obama’s narcissism would still seem to be slightly different in its character and expression than was Bill Clinton’s. Clinton’s narcissism expressed itself most visibly in a compulsion to feed his carnal beast; he, too felt the need to protect his personal illusion of adoration and love, but was also self-centered to the point that he would do anything to feed his fleshly desires. Obama’s narcissism may be less materialistic, but it would appear to be channeled more toward protecting the self-image that he is a good and likable person…and when someone undermines that image of himself (by undermining his country), he will allow and acquiesce to anything in order to stop the bad vibes. The bad vibes injure his impression of himself as a swell guy. It would explain a lot about why he seems to stoop to such depths to curry favor from the person in the crowd most likely to hate us (and, as our national representative, him). But as disgusting and sad as it is for an individual to demean himself so in pursuit of affirmation, it is downright dangerous for the country for our president to do it.
