The outcome of the conflict between Islamists and seculars in Turkey does seem to be of great importance... The way I see it, the main global tension over the past many years was indeed the great fight within Islam. The future of the world depends on whether the "accomodators" - or the more "serious" believers - will win. We in the West like to think that we are the center of the world - the truth is that this time we are simply means, used by other people in an important conflict. We are being dragged in into other people's war.

Refusing to acknowledge the great importance of the conflict within Islam is a sign of our ignorance and arrogance. Our President thinks he can fly in to Cairo and tell them to be nice, and voila! problem solved. It ain't that simple.
