Thad Allen addressed this question this morning on FNS, indicating they had actually discussed this option with the people who did this in the Saudi spill, and determined it wasn't really feasible for a number of reasons in the current spill.

Why aren't the details published? Do supertankers have huge vacuum cleaners? Why has the method been rejected by BP and the US? Exactly how does the method work...don't simply say they vacuum it up....details, details...

What would be a typical area of a tanker vacuum cleaner? How many square miles have to be cleaned?
