They are trying to bully Israel. With Obama at the wheel here, maybe they will get away with it. Yesterday, the NYT printed an article asking if Israel was a strategic liability. This is coming straight from the top. There is a large dump Israel camp in the administration, and a larger bully Israel camp. They don't dare say it as policy. They fear Congress. But they are testing the waters. They hope to use the current crisis to change the policy. From what I see, the Israelis are determined to defend themselves, with the only debates about what is essential to defend and how the Turks managed to dupe Israeli intelligence.
