Hi Mike, I was curious if you were still in the process of checking out MapInfo (Nasdaq: MAPS) or were taking a pass since they don't have listed options. (The earnings came out today, and for a change, there were some <g>)

Also, re potential shorts, do you think its way too early to be looking at oil field services and drillers. (ie Schlumberger, Halliburton, FGII, EVI and the like.) I remember the early 80's, and when I saw SLB recently sporting a PE of 37, I got to thinking maybe its gonna be deja vu all over again.

Since you reside in Houston, I figure you're the expert about such matters. Also, I know that when it comes to crude, you're the man! <g>

regards,

spiny.

Mike, I am glad you are back. I think BPP is right, you are too cheap. Get yourself a new computer. After all that's what Intel wants! -g- BTW, you can thank my bird for that last Monday's 550 point drop. -g- Did I hear you mention 1929? The local library doesn't have any books on the crash of 1929, they are all at my home. -g-

Mike, ASND will probably bottom out after Thanksgiving, after all the year-end tax loss selling is done. That's when I hope to jump back in at lower price!

Sonny

PS: Consider to trade in your Compaq and buy a Micron PC? -g-

Thanks, I got 1/3 at 27 1/2. I think I'll wait, too. Maybe some calls when it goes to 20?

MB If you ever return I'd like your thoughts on QMTM in the high 20's. It seems like the only DD company that so far hasn't ANNOUNCED that their business is under intense pricing pressure yet obviously they must be having some problems. I know you are down on WDC and you've been rite but can I make a good case for QNTM at these prices?? Thanks in advance!! Bob

Hi Michael: if the markets continue to deteriorate both in the US and Asia, might we see a significant decline in international banking stocks like CCI,CMB etc.

i am thinking of this as a long term short 2-3 yrs.
if so, which do you think will be hurt most?

thanks
peter

Re: HDD sector

Hello Michael, I'd love to get your thoughts on the HDD sector in light of recent new information such as Fujitsu's battle for market share wielding Japan's favoured weapon -- low prices.

Also Samsung girding themselves to enter the fray with a $1bb investment in their HDD operations, and recently qualified RDRT to supply 2.1G/p MR heads ...

What do your gremlins tell you? <g>
