C2, my long experience is that few people are immune to reason and facts in the long run, or they at least have glimmerings of consciousness and thought and start to harbour doubts.

Even Sarmaniac might conjure up a concept or two other than bilious rage.

He seems to be one of those people who thinks of himself as rather intelligent, and then mistakes having a thought for it being superlative. "I think, therefore it's true". He was perhaps passably bright at school and was unfairly encouraged to consider himself remarkable. It's an occupational hazard for the intelligent. The most intelligent rapidly realize that although they are surrounded by pigs' ears [note excellent use of apostrophe], that does not, ipso facto [note excellent use of legal lingo], make them a silk purse.
