Not every proposed reduction in government activity would be good for the general population, but generally less activity by the government would be good for the general population. Less activity means less government interference in people's lives. It means less spending, which leads to less taxing or borrowing or both, and it would support the important principle of the rule of law. The constitution gives the federal government limited powers, to the extent the constitution is worked around or subverted in order to have the federal government do more, the rule of law is weakened.
