Neil:

There are registered independents (and their crowd is growing) who are running away from the tea party folks. It is not a characterization by the Dem. party. why should the Democrats want to kill the movement when the movement is directed at the Republicans in power and the Republican leadership?

What makes the independents and the Republicans suspicious of the Tea Party is that these folks came into being after Obama's election victory. Until then, these folks were not concerned that Bush was driving up the deficits massively. The deficit did not become an issue overnight. It took 8 years for the deficit to get to where it is. And as a side note, the party members are predominantly white. Whereas the leadership of both the parties are African-Americans. So what would you expect the tea party folks to do? Breakaway I suppose.
