"I used this months dividends to buy MCD earlier this week."

This brings up a good point ..

One may choose to reinvest dividends automatically
in additional shares of the stock paying the dividends
thru one's brokerage account that offers this service or
via DRIPs ..

Alternatively, once one has a diversified portfolio of
dividend paying stocks, then you can 'sweep' the dividends
monthly/quarterly, what have you, with the ability to
reinvest/add to any stock that at the time presents
an "accidental high yield" which most probably won't
coincide with that stock's normal distribution date ..
ie take advantage of "events" to enhance coumpounding ..

Triff ..
