>>>How strongly do you support John Boehner's proposed taxpayer bail-out of BP?<<<

I have been standing on the sidelines on this issue, and calmly pointing out that like it or not, BP and the US are joined at the hip. You know...politics makes strange bedfellows and things like that.

The US bailing out BP??? Seems awfully silly to me.

But morally right or wrong, it is what it is. If BP goes under, that would be bad for all. It is analogous to being assigned a college roommate you can't stand and can't avoid.

They should cut a deal. It will stink and offend all in some fashion or other.

Is this the start of a twisted implementation of Smoot-Hawley? If you don't stop bad mouthing our oil company, we will begin to bad mouth your filthy and disgusting banks. If you don't stop impoverishing our Scottish widows we will start selling our massive holdings in US Treasuries - because they will crash soon enough, and besides, we can buy a lot more pounds with them now that the dollar has risen so much.

What does Big-O have against the Brits anyway???

I spent Tuesday on Wall Street. I was there an hour early so I walked west out of the subway to take a look at the World Trade Center site. Lots of construction around the edges. I couldn't see down into the hole for all of the pedestrian barriers.

On my way back, I passed through Trinity Church on the west end of the Street. Louis Rukeyser would always say ... "Wall Street. The only street in the world with a river on one end and a graveyard on the other." That is true. I saw the river and the graveyard. But while exiting the main entrance to Trinity on the east facade I looked down and saw a a big brass plaque in the pavement. It had an inscription which read something like...'This plaque commemorates the gracious visit of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1972.' You can bet that Obama will have that torn out by Christmas.

"Republicans could come on strong and threaten to declare Martial Law if Congress doesn't approve a trillion Dollar package for BP within ten days."

Say what?
