I don't see BP or BP USA going bk . Way too many assets in the form of understated reserves and that does not even begin to consider the prospects it owns or has rights to. Hell, at $70 oil and 40k bopd this fiasco will generate ~$1B/year alone.
Considering the number of pensioners and institutions it funds via the divvy one could argue that governments have a vested interest in keeping BP alive and semi well.
More likely BP will be stuck with a gigantic fine (the industry needs to be sent a message) and for funding for years and years to come a government monitored/supervised private sector jobs program dedicated to rehabilitation and restoration of the GOM. I think that a rational conclusion is that BP will be around for a long, long time, a safe divvie, but as far as its free and easy way of doing things- well, its nuts are going to get cut off.
