So true. USA has a nasty capital gains tax on gold bullion, and a generous capital gains tax exemption on real estate. ;)

I'm simply letting my GDX position ride for the long term. It is clearly undervalued, IMO.

Short term, silver may be the tradable PM for a 1-2 week trade as the bulls continue to smoke rope and think the economy is improving, employment and huge Gulf Coast issues notwithstanding.

BTW, the ECRI index of weekly leading indicators, a very reliable guide to the future, is down to its lowest point of the year. All leading indicators should start to go down as the magnitude of the BP disaster makes itself felt.
