Yes, it should not be necessary for 3rd. parties to encourage others to do what we believe is the correct course of action.

What I was alluding to was your contention that the Muslim community, at large, was remaining silent because they were tacitly supporting the extremists.

Now there have been Muslims that have spoken out against extremists within their religion.

And if those Muslims believe that there are many others, besides themselves, that think that way then, IMO, they need to be challenged by any freedom loving individual or group to stand up and be counted.
If they don't, then surely it's obvious where their allegiances lie.
