I don't think SA has addressed the problems of pollution or taxed people to clean up the worst areas to the extent that we have here in the U.S. I think we've been in the lead in that regard. Tax payers have paid millions.........probably billions of dollars to clean up environmental degradation. We have more money here, so I understand we are better able to afford clean up. I don't know what percentage of gdp goes towards pollution and educating the public in SA, but I'm sure it isn't enough.

I think other problems have stood in the way. Like the problem of poverty.
